Driver training according to UVV in the vehicle fleet

One of the most important tasks in your fleet should be training drivers according to UVV. Every company that hands over vehicles to employees is required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations of the employers' liability insurance associations to train employees on safe driving once a year. What is driver training in the fleet?

Driver training is considered the regular training of vehicle users on how to operate vehicles in a fleet. This training should take place at least once a year. The driver training must be adapted to the development of hazards in the fleet and is therefore based on the risk assessments that must be carried out beforehand.

Who is responsible for vehicle training?

Generally, the responsibility for driver training lies with the company, or with the management. However, this task can be passed on to a company's fleet manager and he or she can be assigned the task. For this reason, driver training is an important topic for every fleet manager, as legal consequences and high fines can lead to challenges in the fleet. Therefore risk analysis and compliance must be ensured.

Legal regulations of driver training

Companies are required to ensure any accident prevention and safety measures in the fleet. This includes, by law, that employers carry out regular driver training with their employees. These regulations are based on the following laws:

§ 12 Occupational Safety Act
§ 12 Industrial Safety Ordinance
§ 4 DGUV regulation 1
§ 35 DGUV regulation 70

Not only must employers be able to ensure the general safety and health of employees and provide training. They must also be able to prove that drivers are capable of driving vehicles (according to DGUV Regulation 70). These instructions must take place at least once a year and must also be documented and available at any time.
